Whose Bonus?
No Rationale for Adopting Federal Depreciation Options

A new tax break for corporations being negotiated in a possible special session of the Iowa Legislature may offer false promise to help the state economy. The proposal - bonus depreciation - would allow quicker write-offs for investments in new equipment. The tax break would allow businesses to claim reductions for invesments made almost three years ago. Providing corporate tax breaks for purchasing decisions already made will not stimulate new purchasing activity.
